Wildlife biologists report there is at least one black bear looking for food in the Rattlesnake neighborhood by prying open garbage cans.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks bear managers urge residents to contain all attractants in a bear-resistant manner and to not put out garbage until the morning of pick-up.

Missoula Animal Control is patrolling for garbage ordinance violations. FWP asks residents to carry bear spray and know how to use it when recreating in bear country.

FWP reports bears are also getting into garbage in the Potomac, Bitterroot, Mill Creek, Lolo and Grant Creek areas.
