Forest Service names 2 new deputy regional foresters in Missoula

Northern Region Forester Leanne Marten on Monday announced the selection of Melany Glossa and Keith Lannom as deputy regional foresters for the region's Missoula headquarters.

"Melany and Keith are dedicated public servants and proven leaders," Marten said in the announcement. "We are excited to have them join us as we work together with our state, tribal and community partners and volunteers to enhance forest and grassland health and further economic prosperity for our communities."

Glossa is currently a deputy regional forester for the Eastern Region in Milwaukee, Wis.  She has been with the Forest Service since 2001 and has worked as a forest planner, district ranger and forest supervisor in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Indiana and Montana.

"This is an amazing opportunity," Glossa said. "I am looking forward to being a part of the innovation and excitement of the Northern Region as we embrace so many possibilities and work to make the Forest Service the ideal workplace for our dedicated employees."

Lannom is currently the forest supervisor of the Payette National Forest in McCall, Idaho. He joined the Forest Service in 1992 upon completion of graduate school in Mississippi.  He has worked in geospatial and remote sensing technology and has served as a district ranger and forest supervisor in Tennessee, New Hampshire and Idaho.

"I am looking forward to being part of the Northern Region's leadership team, learning about its forests and grasslands and engaging with employees," Lannom said.

As deputy regional foresters, Glossa and Lannom will share management responsibilities for the Northern Region's 10 national forests and grasslands, covering 25 million acres across northern Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and northwest South Dakota. Both are expected to begin work in August.
