The Department of Defense announced on Wednesday the death of a U.S. Army soldier from Billings who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Sergeant Nathan G. Irish of Billings died on Sunday, October 27, of a non-combat related incident at Camp Taji in Iraq.

According to the Army Times, Camp Taji is sometimes called Camp Cooke, and is in the Baghdad Governorate.

Irish was 23 years old. According to Irish's Facebook page, he was a graduate of Billings Senior High School.

Irish was assigned to 25th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He previously deployed to Kuwait from October 2017 to July 2018.

According to the Army Times, Irish joined the active-duty Army in January 2015 and served at Fort Bliss, Texas, before reporting to Fort Wainwright in November 2018. He was a small arms and artillery repair non-commissioned officer.

Irish had been awarded two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

No other details about the incident have been released at this point, and his death is still being investigated.
