Gov. Steve Bullock joined 13 governors on Thursday in urging the White House not to undermine women’s health with its proposed rule change to place new restrictions on reproductive health care providers.

Bullock joined the governors, who together represent 90 million Americans, in sending a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, calling the latest White House proposal “dangerous.”

“We strongly urge you not to undermine the important work that governors and administrations of both parties have done for decades to support women and families through Title X,” the letter states. “We will continue to consult with our states’ Attorneys General, state legislatures, and state health agencies to stop this rule from harming the millions of women we are sworn to protect.”

Among other things, Title X provides federal funding to organizations that provide birth control and cancer screenings and test for sexually transmitted diseases.

The Trump administration has proposed restricting the program's funding to organizations that perform abortions, so long as they're housed in the same facility.

According to the Washington Examiner, it would also place restrictions on when doctors and nurses can discuss an abortion with a patient. Some groups are calling that a “gag rule” and are considering a lawsuit against the administration.

“We call on all Americans to actively and aggressively oppose this proposed action,” the governors' letter said. “And if this reckless policy is finalized as written, we will have no choice but to explore all possible avenues, including legal options, to block it from harming the women in our states.”

Governors who joined include Steve Bullock, (MT); Jay Inslee (WA); Gina Raimondo (RI); Andrew Cuomo (NY); Mark Dayton, (MN); John Hickenlooper (CO); Dan Malloy (CT); David Ige (HI); Tom Wolf (PA); Kate Brown (OR); John Carney (DE); Roy Cooper (NC); Phil Murphy (NJ); and Ralph Northam (VA).
