Saying infrastructure goes beyond roads and bridges, Sen. Steve Daines on Thursday outlined his priorities for investments in energy, including ways to move coal and oil to market.

Addressing the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing, Daines also called for action on forest management, citing a need to decrease the risk of wildfires in Montana while reducing the bureaucratic hurdles that place power lines in jeopardy.

“As the state with the largest deposit of recoverable coal, too, we also are looking for approval of coal export terminals so we can begin moving our coal through domestic ports – creating American jobs - rather than going through ports in Canada,” said Daines, R-Montana.

Daines said he's looking for bills that strengthen the nation's energy assets, including the rapid approval of pipelines, export terminals and recovering raw materials through mining.
