Voting begins: Quist casts ballot for May 25 congressional election

Rob Quist cast his ballot for this month's special congressional election on Tuesday, and encouraged other voters to do the same.

Counties across the state mailed absentee ballots to all those voters who requested the service on May 1. They are due back to election offices by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Thursday, May 25.

In Missoula County, 45,000 absentee ballots went in the mail on Monday.

The May 25 vote was scheduled to select a successor to former Rep. Ryan Zinke, who was named Interior secretary by President Donald Trump earlier this year.

Names on the ballot include Democrat Quist, Republican Greg Gianforte and Libertarian Mark Wicks.

In addition, three candidates tried to get their names on the ballot, but did not collect enough signatures. However, voters can write in the names of Thomas Breck of the Green Party, or independents Steve Kelly or Doug Campbell.

Voters who aren't certain of their status, or who have questions about their polling place, should visit the website run by the Montana Secretary of State called My Voter Page (https://app.mt.gov/voterinfo/). That site also allows voters to track the status of their absentee ballot, or to register for the election.
Finally, Missoula County voters can actually cast their ballots early - as Quist did in Kalispell on Tuesday - by coming to the Election Center at the fairgrounds.
