Historic Miss Montana aircraft plans hurricane relief mission to Bahamas

(KPAX) The legendary Miss Montana airplane is once again taking to the skies.

The historic World War II plane from Missoula -- which took part in the events surrounding the 75th anniversary of D-Day -- is headed to the Bahamas following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.

The Museum Of Mountain Flying has offered to donate the services of Miss Montana and her cargo capability to the relief effort, according to a social media post.

"We have an amazing group of volunteers who have lined up to travel with the plane and offer their services to assist wherever needed. We are planning to depart late Saturday evening," the Facebook post reads .

The plan is to deliver backpacks filled with baked goods and food supplies to children, and the community is being asked to make donations.

Anyone who would like to lend a hand to the relief effort is asked to message the Museum Of Mountain Flying on Facebook or by dropping off donations by Saturday at the museum, which is located at the Missoula International Airport.

"We hope you are excited about this as we are and we believe this is a great use of our wonderful Montana asset to donate to a worthy cause such as this," the Facebook post concluded.
