Basketball season is just around the corner, and fans will have the opportunity to see their Montana basketball teams in action later this month. The Griz and Lady Griz will hold their annual Maroon-Silver Scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 23 inside Dahlberg Arena.

At the midway point of the 2018 season, the Montana Grizzlies sit at the top of the Big Sky Conference table at 4-1 and 2-0 in league play after dispatching Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo for the first time since 2008.

They say good things come in threes, and for Montana junior linebacker Dante Olson, they sure do. Olson was named ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday following one of the best tackling performances in UM and Big Sky Conference history at Cal Poly on Saturday.

Montana turned two first-quarter turnovers into an early 17-0 lead and never trailed in picking up a 48-28 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday evening at San Luis Obispo. The Grizzlies improved to 4-1, 2-0 in league.

University of Montana director of athletics Kent Haslam has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Selection Committee, and will serve on the committee through the 2020 season.

Montana defensive end Reggie Tilleman has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday. Tilleman, a senior, is one of only three players from the Big Sky Conference, and one of 40 players in all of FCS football to earn a place amongst the 179 semifinalists.

Montana returns all five starters from a team that peaked in late January, when the Lady Griz went on the road and swept Southern Utah and Northern Arizona in convincing fashion.

The Griz travel to the Golden State on Sept. 29 to take on Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, a team that has bedeviled UM in recent years with a triple option-based attack that has led to a three-game win streak for the Mustangs and wins in four of the last six meetings dating back to 2013.

Yohance Humphrey, Chase Reynolds, Lex Hilliard … Dalton Sneed.   Montana junior quarterback Dalton Sneed put his name amongst some of the greatest to ever carry a ball for the Grizzlies on Saturday, leading the Grizzlies to a 41-34 victory over a strong Sacramento State team with 206 rushing yards, 440 yards of total offense, and four touchdowns.

The Montana Grizzlies moved to 3-1 on the season and got their Big Sky Conference slate off on the right foot as UM battled back and forth with Sacramento State before holding the Hornets to just six second-half points to come away with a 41-34 victory in Missoula on Saturday.
