(KPAX) Winter weather across the country was impacting travelers as they geared up for Thanksgiving travel this week.

Blizzard conditions in Denver shut down roads and canceled more than 470 flights on Tuesday. Flights from Denver to Missoula were canceled, delayed and rescheduled Tuesday morning.

Malin Johnson and her family go to Denver once a year for the holidays. She says winter weather almost always impacts their travel. This year, they got text updates from their airline to stay up to date on any changes in the flight.

Johnson said, "It’s always tough because we try to fly to Denver at Thanksgiving, and sometimes Christmas, and those are always unpredictable weather times but that’s part of living in Montana and traveling to Denver."

The Johnsons’ departure time changed multiple times throughout the day. She said, "We're just hopeful we'll be able to land and get there for Thanksgiving."

Johnson plans to spend the week with her husband’s side of the family.

Missoula International Airport deputy director Brian Ellestad said it may be hard to change flights during a storm event.

"Typically the summer is actually busier for us than over the holidays, but the flights that we do have, yeah, they’ll be full," he said.

Ellestad said travelers should double check their flight status and make a Plan B.
