(KPAX) Lights, camera, action? Montana could be seeing more of itself on the big screen if a proposed bill passes in Helena.

Montana House Bill 293 would give filmmakers in Montana tax incentives.

With the way the measure is currently worded, it would give filmmakers a 20 percent to 25 percent tax incentive to work in Montana.

The Treasure State is one of 10 states that doesn’t have tax credits for filmmakers who decide to work in Montana which has steered many filmmakers away from Montana.

Filmlites Montana owner JP Gabriel said the film industry does many favors for the state, noting that one should just look at what happened to tourism and real estate after the Robert Redford-Brad Pitt film “A River Runs Through It” was released.

“It was an incredible boom to a lot of businesses and we still see it today, especially with all the fly shops, the lifestyle that is out here and people want to capture the romance they saw in that,” Gabriel said.

The Montana House of Representatives voted to send the bill to the floor last week
