A beloved Ninemile Valley icon and longtime business was engulfed and destroyed by fire late Sunday.

Crews from Frenchtown Rural Fire Department were still on the scene at KJ’s Nine Mile Steak House Monday morning. The building was a complete loss.

Fire officials reported no injuries and have not yet released a cause for the blaze.

On Facebook, patrons of the log-cabin restaurant offered their sympathy and remembrances as word spread of the fire.

“So, so sorry for your loss. We enjoyed so many wonderful meals and good times there,” wrote Huson resident Amanda Beauchamp.

“Noooooooooo!,” wrote Jeffrey J. Smith of Missoula.

“So happy to hear no one was injured! What a loss for our tight knit community!,” said Jarred Evans.

“Thoughts and prayers for you all. So sorry to see it gone. Hope you can rebuild!” added Paul Rollins.

Frenchtown fire officials said 30 firefighters attempted to quell the blaze, to no avail. Crews from Missoula Rural and East Missoula fire departments aided the effort.

Flames were reported to 9-1-1 at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
