Missoula Mayor John Engen added some comic relief to a conversation with Sen. Jon Tester and Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament on Sunday night by taking up the guitar.

After playing show host and posing questions to the two Montana icons at the Wilma theater, Engen reached for the guitar placed behind his chair and dialed up the amplifier.

“Speaking of the unexpected, and in the spirit of rock and roll,” Engen began, placing the guitar strap over his shoulder.

“In honor of our friends from Pearl Jam and with apologies to them as well, and our friend Sen. Jon Tester, a little something I wrote called an 'Ode to a Farmer from Big Sandy,” Engen said. “Three cords, all you need.”

You can see the results for yourself.
