AMC Theatres unveils new monthly ticket program: three movies for $19.95

AMC Theatres introduced a new program this week that enables guests to view three movies per week in a move intended to give MoviePass some competition.

The AMC Stubs A-List subscription program costs $19.95 a month and begins next week, the company said. AMC owns and operates the two largest theaters in Missoula, including the newly opened dine-in theater at Southgate Mall and the AMC Classic on Mullan Road.

“We believe that our current and future loyal guests will be interested in this type of program, as AMC Stubs A-List rewards guests with something that no one else offers,” Adam Aron, CEO and President, AMC Theatres said in a statement.

According to the company, those benefits cover any AMC location and format, including IMAX, 3D and BigD. Members of the program also receive free upgrades on popcorn and soda, free refills on large popcorn, express service at the box office and concession stand, and no online ticketing fees.

AMC unveiled the program as questions mount regarding the sustainability of MoviePass and its ability to remain in business. By comparison, MoviePass costs $9.95 a month and enables guests to see a movie a day at most theaters.

“Since its inception in 2011, AMC Stubs has continued to evolve to meet the needs of its customers, as it did in 2016 when we introduced the free tier, AMC Stubs Insider,” Aron said. “AMC Stubs A-List is AMC’s next evolution of delivering amazing benefits to our loyal customers, and we’re excited to continue to grow the program by leaps and bounds.”
