George Dennison

By Missoula Current

George M. Dennison was a historian and educator who definitely enhanced the history of the University of Montana during his tenure as the University of Montana’s longest-serving president from 1990 to 2010.

The university and the Dennison family will honor the enduring impacts of his legacy during a Celebration of Life from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the University Center Ballroom.

Jane Dennison, wife of the late President Emeritus, and UM President Sheila Stearns invite the public to attend.

George Dennison died on Jan. 3 due to complications from non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 81. UM will present him with a posthumous Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during commencement exercises on May 13.

Bill Johnston, retired director of UM’s Office of Alumni Relations, will emcee the Celebration of Life, and Stearns will provide opening and closing remarks. Tributes will be provided by friends and family members.
