The annual Commuter Challenge hosted by Missoula In Motion kicks off today, encouraging commuters to travel to work using a sustainable mode of transportation.

That means walking, taking the bus, biking or carpooling.

Just park the car and give it a shot.

“This is a really fun way to get more people in our community to try walking, biking, busing or carpooling to work,” said program specialist Linzie Norman. “The best part is the competition that forms between businesses to see how many sustainable trips they can rack up. Everyone wants to win.”

During the challenge, businesses and organizations can sign-up and face-off against each other to log the most sustainable trips to win prizes.

The challenge looks to entice people that may not otherwise use sustainable modes of transportation to try it at least once during the competition, which runs until May 14.

Missoula In Motion’s new website and commuter app will make it even easier for businesses and organizations to sign-up and log their trips.

A kick-off celebration for the Challenge will be held on May 1 at the Missoula Brewing Company (Highlander) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Everyone who arrives via a sustainable travel mode will get their first beverage for only $1.
